Restored Humber vessels of yesteryear feature in a new book Humber Sail and History

Riverside and Waterways Tales Part I, penned and compiled by local journalist Chris Horan, is available now.

The 208 page volume, with more than 230 illustrations, is aimed at the general reader

and features photos of the historic vessels Parade of Sail on the Humber

and yachts taking part in the Clipper Around the World Yacht race.

It delves back into the days of sail on the Humber, Trent, Ouse and other waterways.

The book features memories relating to the restoration and adventures of local vessels and the skills of

yesteryear both before and after the advent of engines.

It features memories of tea smuggling, shipwrecks and treasures as well as remote lifestyles of people along the

Humber and on an island in its midst. There are also accounts of the building of bridges and the ending of ferries.

"Hopefully this will help create interest in vessels owned by the HKSPS and individuals in our recession hit times

when resources are scarce," said Chris.

Copies of the book, priced £13, will be available from a number of outlets from early December,

or can be obtained direct from Chris by post for £15, including postage and packing,

with cheques payable to Chris Horan, c/o 22 Priory Crescent, Scunthorpe, DN17 1HX.

Pre Christmas orders should be sent as soon as possible.

Further memories for a part II are currently being sought and should be sent to the above address or
